The Chinese filigree craft is the Intangible Cultural Heritage of China.
It is a traditional metalworking technique that has been passed down for thousands of years. This craft originated during the Warring States period (475 BCE – 221 BCE), and reached its zenith during the Ming (1368 – 1644 CE) and Qing (1636 – 1912 CE) dynasties. Because of its high difficulty in craftsmanship and gorgeous design, Chinese filigree handicrafts were favored by the royal family and aristocrats in ancient times.
It mainly uses gold, silver and other precious metals to make fine filaments as thin as hair, and then makes exquisite handicrafts by pinching 掐, filling 填, stacking 堆, layering 垒, braiding 编, weaving 织, assembling 攒 and soldering 焊.
